Recovery of lost data from any NSS file system based Novell volume is now possible with a simple 3 step process. First you have to choose the troubled drive/volume with the 'Select' option. The next step is to search for the recoverable files with the 'Scan' option. Lastly, you have to click on the 'Save' option to recover the data and it will be stored at the specified location.

Detailed product functionality:

 

Stellar Phoenix Novell Data Recovery NSS v3.0 scans the selected NSS hard disk, pool or volume and displays all the recoverable data in a hierarchical view format. This application features Fresh Recovery tab, Resume Recovery tab, Create Image tab and Data Recovery Service tab.

 

Fresh Recovery tab has a 'Start Fresh Recovery' button which when clicked opens a recovery screen having a tree view structure that allows to 'Select Media', i.e., disk, pool or volume to be scanned. Clicking on the continue button, or double clicking the selected media, starts the scanning. Scanned files and folders are listed in a tree structure with the deleted files and folders marked in red. All the content of the selected folder are displayed at the right side. Selecting any of the files listed here shows a preview of that file. This scanned information is used for recovery either immediately or by saving this information in a file and then loading it later.

 

Additional features for data recovery flexibility are available at the bottom right side of the screen. These include :

 

• Save scan to retrieve data later
• Find a file in the tree displayed.
• Mask Unwanted files & folders. It rearranges the tree structure to show only required file types.
• Select All to select all the files for recovery
• Unselect All to unselect the selected files
• Recover to start immediate recovery of the selected files or folders

 

Resume Recovery tab continues with the recovery process, by loading the prescanned (and saved) information and saving all the files and folders that are available in it. It does not continue with scanning process, so any further scan means starting the scan again.

 

Create Image Tab: gives two options, Create Image and Clone Disk.

 

• Create Image is used to image an NSS hard-disk to ensure faster scanning. The image that is created is a sector-by-sector copy of the original disk, except without the bad sectors. Hence it can be scanned instead of the drive to recover all the data.
• Clone Disk recreates the NSS hard disk on another disk, by cloning the entire file structure along with the files. It creates sector by sector clone of partitions or hard disks, including the operating system, file systems and partition scheme and thus eliminates the need to reinstall your software and settings.

How can I recover data from NSS Pools ?

Please follow the below procedure to recover data from the NSS Pools :

• Go to 'Drive' menu and then select the option 'Advance Search for NSS Pools'.
• A dialog would appear Press Yes, and another dialog box would appear.
• Select the disk from which you need to recover pools. and press 'OK' the software would scan the drive to locate the volumes and would give you a list of the pools it finds.
• Further you can select the pool to locate the volume and recover the data from the found pool.

How can I save the scan information for the later use ?

 

To save the scan information, go to 'Tools' menu in the program and select 'Save Scan Information' option and select the destination folder to save the ‘.dat’ file (make sure do not save the file on the same drive from which you want to recover the data). Once you saved the scanned information you can open the same by going to 'Drives' menu in the program and selecting 'Open Drive Using Scan Information' option and try to recover the lost files (make sure do not make any hardware changes on your system after saving the scan information).
