How to Recover

Stellar Phoenix Outlook Express Recovery 3.0 repairs damaged DBX files using non-destructive scanning algorithms without affecting the original file. You should 'Select' the corrupt DBX file that you want to repair. After that, you should 'Scan' the selected DBX file after which the recoverable emails are displayed in a 3-pane structure, which you can verify before going for the actual recovery. Lastly, you should 'Save' the repaired DBX file to the location that you have provided.

 

The tool can recover .dbx file by offering distinct toolbar and menu bar options, all listed to provide various functionalities. The software interface has icons to select and search the file, add files to tree-view, start recovery, stop recovery, and various others. The main interface is divided into three panes: left-pane for file tree-view, top-right pane for message header information and bottom-right pane for selected message data. The window also displays a box at extreme-bottom that shows the log report of current processes.

 

'Select DBX File' Box

As you start the application, it prompts you to 'Select DBX File'. You can opt for any of the following options depending on whether the DBX file location is known or not:

  • Select DBX: The 'Select DBX' lets you to navigate directly to the file. This option is used when the affected file location is exactly determined.
  • Find DBX: This option opens up a dialog box containing a list-box , namely 'Look-in', to select the desired drive and a button, namely 'Search in Folder', to select the target folder. Click 'Start' to initiate the scanning of drive or folder and 'Stop' to halt the running process. This lists the DBX files it finds and provides options to add the desired one in tree-view.
  • Select Folder: This option allows you to select a folder (even a drive can be selected as a folder) to search for *.dbx files. It opens a dialog box consisting of files it finds and different options for their selection. You can click 'Start Recovery' to start repair directly from this window.

 

In the first two options, after you select the desired file, you need to click 'Start Recovery' of main 'Select DBX File' dialog box to Recover Emails.

 

Toolbar

  • Open DBX File: This icon opens up the 'Select DBX File' dialog box to select and search files.
  • Save DBX File: This option displays the 'Save File' dialog box, which contains radio-buttons to save the file either as .eml file(s) or as .dbx file. If the product is not activated, the option opens up a dialog box to activate the product either through 'Online Activation' or 'Manual Registration'. The software accepts the root location as default, which can be changed by browsing to the desired location.
  • Stop: The 'Stop' icon ceases the recovery process.
  • Help: This icon opens up the help file of the Outlook Express Recovery software
  • Updates: Clicking on 'Updates' option checks and installs the recent software updates
  • About: This option shows a dialog box about general information of product, such as contact details and software system.

  • File menu contains three options-'Open DBX File', 'Save DBX File' and Exit (to quit the tool).

Steps to Recover Outlook Express through software:

 

  • Search DBX File: Use 'Select DBX File' dialog box (launched at initial start or using corresponding file menu or toolbar option) to select the *.dbx file(s) manually or by searching in folder or drive.
  • Save File: Click 'Save DBX file' option from file menu or toolbar. This offers you two preference options to choose the file format:
    • Save as EML: This option saves the recovered message(s) with .eml extension and name as of email subject line . If you save an entire folder (originally *.dbx file), all the contained emails are stored as individual .eml files named as of message subject line under the folder named as of original folder. All these folders are further contained in a main folder prefixed with Recovered file and suffixed by recovery date and time enclosed within brackets.
    • Save as DBX: This option saves the recovered folder(s) under .dbx extension. By default, the software creates a new folder prefixed with Recovered file and suffixed by recovery date and time enclosed within brackets and restores the individual folders with .dbx extension in it.
  • Click 'Browse' to choose the desired location for saving the data, which is of original folder by default.
  • Use Recovered File: The recovered emails (either .eml file(s) or .dbx file) are restored at user-specified location:
    • Use .eml file: Locate the .eml file or click 'Click here' to view saved .eml file(s)' (displayed at success dialog box) and double-click it to open it directly with Outlook Express
    • Use .dbx file: Use Outlook Express email import and export wizard to import and view the recovered emails of .dbx file.

 

Note: Make sure Outlook Express is closed before you start recovering .dbx file(s) with the software.

I am not able to find my DBX file, how do I scan it ?

I have recovered my DBX file, how do I import it back in to my outlook express?

I want to recover my emails in .eml format, how can I do that ?
