How to recover data from FAT file systems
Using this FAT data recovery software, you can recover lost or deleted data from FAT-based system in three simple steps. First of all, you should 'Select' the type of recovery from the provided recovery options. Then, you need to 'Scan' the storage media from which you have lost the data. Once the scanning gets over, you can see the preview of the deleted files in a 3-pane structure. 'Save' the recovered files at the specified location.
This FAT file recovery software is characterized by four tabs, Data Recovery tab, Resume Recovery tab, Advance Options tab and Recovery Services tab.
Data Recovery Tab: performs FAT data recovery along with giving users four different recovery options.
- Quick Recovery: for scanning the selected area quickly and to list all the data, existing or deleted
- Deleted File Recovery: for scanning deleted files from the selected area
- Formatted/Lost File and Folder Recovery: for recovering data from the selected area of the hard drive
- Search Lost Volume: for performing FAT partition recovery of deleted partition
FAT data recovery flexibility is offered with the following additional features:
- Save Scan for retrieving data at a later stage
- Find a file out of a list of displayed files.
- Mask to rearrange the scan list to display required files in hierarchical manner.
- Select All to select all the files for recovery
- Unselect All to unselect the selected files
- Recover to recover selected files and folders
Resume Recovery Tab:
loads scan information file and recovers data displayed in the list. This scanned information file is an image file that is used to recover files.
Note: Resume recovery feature of FAT file recovery software is used to complete the recovery process, and not the scan process, i.e., in case the image loaded has information about an incomplete scan that has a few files, then resume recovery recovers those files. To recover other files scanning has to be redone.
Advance Options Tab:
features Raw Recovery, Drive Imaging and Drive Status Information. Raw Recovery feature of FAT recovery software is used when the system area of a hard drive or partition is corrupt. This feature searches every sector, and displays the files, segregated on the basis of file types, like .png, .doc, .ppt etc. Raw recovery then recovers the files. This features has nothing to do with the file system.
Drive Imaging has two options, Create Image and Clone Disk.
- Create Image feature of FAT partition recovery tool creates an image of the files and folders along with the entire hierarchy of the selected storage device. This feature is most useful when bad sectors slow down the scanning process of the FAT file recovery software. Since imaging is done for the good sectors alone, scanning the image instead of the imaged area leads to a faster scan and an efficient FAT recovery.
- Clone Disk Clone Disk creates a clone of each and every sector and replicates the entire hard disk. Clone disk thus recreates the operating system, installed software, entire file structure, partitions and hard disk. With all these functionalities FAT file recovery application ensures that there is no need to reinstall the software or settings.
Drive Status Information shows serial number, model number, temperature, size, status, firmware revision number and S.M.A.R.T features of attached hard disk. This is a very useful feature of FAT partition recovery software. Drive Information box shows information such as total sectors, sectors per track, number of cylinders and number of heads. The volume Information box shows information of existing logical volumes in the hard disk.
Recovery Services Tab gives information about Stellar Data Recovery Services.

- I am using Windows Vista and unable to see my physical disk in your software ?
- How do I recover data from the hard disk having bad sectors using FAT Data Recovery Software ?
- How can I save the scan information for the later use ?
I am using Windows Vista and unable to see my physical disk in your software ?
You need to run the Stellar Phoenix program in 'Administrator' mode. To do this, please follow the below mentioned steps: Right click on the program icon and go to 'Properties' >> 'Compatibility', now under Privilege check the option 'Run in Admin Mode' and click on Ok button. Now, run the software again and you can see the physical disk on the left hand side of the panel.
How do I recover data from the hard disk having bad sectors using FAT Data Recovery Software ?
We would suggest you to create the image of the drive using the create image functionality of FAT Data Recovery software and try to recover the data from the image. As the software will create the image of the good sectors of the drive and skip the bad sectors. Follow the following process to create image using the data recovery software.
For the same double click on the physical disk in the software and click ‘Create Image’ and then save the file to another drive (make sure do not save the image file on the same drive from which you want to recover the data).
Then import the saved file in the software by going to ‘Drives >> Open Image file’. And then perform the scanning on the image file and try to recover the data.
How can I save the scan information for the later use ?
To save the scan information, go to 'Tools' menu in the program and select 'Save Scan Information' option and select the destination folder to save the ‘.dat’ file (make sure do not save the file on the same drive from which you want to recover the data).
Once you saved the scanned information you can open the same by going to 'Drives' menu in the program and selecting 'Open Drive Using Scan Information' option and try to recover the lost files (make sure do not make any hardware changes on your system after saving the scan information).

Testimonial
A friend of my wife had XP behave awkwardly on her laptop. She purchased an external harddrive and had someone copy files over before doing a deep format and installing XP.
