Q. How will the installation of
Shield help me in retrieving the data ?
A. If Stellar Shield is installed on your computer before
any data loss occurs; this module ensures total data recovery
within minutes in most of the cases. Every time you boot
your computer, stellar executes and takes an image of
the systems area. The systems area is used to manage your
data. When your disk crashes, stellar searches for, locates
and verifies this systems area image file in the crashed
hard disk. Once this file is verified, stellar rebuilds
your inaccessible drive or helps you in recovering data
to another disk. You could recover data yourself at the
touch of few keystrokes.
Q. Will I get back 100% data after Shield installation
?
A. You will get total data If there are no physical
errors in the hard disk and no disk overwrite has occurred.
Data recovery will be limited if your files are internally
corrupt or if your hard disk is encrypted
Q. In what all cases Shield works ?
A. Shield works in all the cases as long as your hard
drive is getting detection by the BIOS and there are
no physical errors in the hard disk. It can recover
or restore back your data in cases like file/directory
deletion, accidental format (except low level format),
partition loss, boot sector corruption, FAT corruption,
root directory problems, viruses, Track '0' bad, etc.
Q. Does it support physically crashed hard
drives ?
A. No, data recovery is not possible from physically
damaged hard disks using Shield.
Q. Can it recover from bad sectors ?
A. Limited data recovery is possible from bad sectors.
Q. Does it recovers automatically or I have
to recover manually ?
A. You simply have to run our utility after booting
from a bootable disk and just follow the on screen instructions.
Rest it does automatically.
Q. Does it requires any technical knowledge
?
A. No technical knowledge is required to run or use
the software. Shield has a very simple layout and requires
very little interaction. All actions happen at few key
strokes only.
Q. I've 5 PC's, can I buy one software copy
and install it on all of them ?
A. No you can not install the software on more than
one PC. Shield requires presence of an installation
counter to work. The software contains only one counter
hence you can install Shield only on one PC. If you
intend to install shield on multiple machines you would
require additional copies.
Q. What is this counter system ?
A. Installation counters are included in the software
to check software piracy. There is an in-built software
copy protection system which is counter based. Every
diskette contains a single counter i.e. software can
be installed only once on a PC. When we install the
software, that counter is transferred to the hard disk
and the diskettes has no counters left. That's why the
software is installable only once.
Q. Can I make multiple copies of these diskettes
?
A. No, you can not make multiple copies of the diskette
because it is illegal. Moreover due to this counter
system even if you make multiple copies of the software,
the replicas will not run.
Q. What about performance degradation after
installation ?
A. There is no affect on the performance of the system.
Your system works in the same fashion as it was before
installation.
Q. How much space does it takes ?
A. Depending upon the capacity of the hard disk and
the file system you are using the space may vary. Normally
it takes 12 MB for a 8 GB hard disk with FAT32 as file
system.
Q. Can this image file be deleted or corrupted
by a virus ?
A. The image file is read only and hidden. The file
does not get accidentally deleted. The chances of virus
corruption are remote.
Q. How much time it takes to restore the hard
disk ?
A. It might take anywhere between 2 minutes to 20 minutes
depending upon the capacity and amount of data present
in the hard disk
Q. Where does Shield stores its image file
?
A. Shield stores its image files in the hard disk itself,
normally as other files are stored.
Q. How will Shield locate its image file if
the hard disk crashes ?
A. Just launch the program in recovery disk. The software
is smart enough to locate its image file in the crashed
hard disk automatically.
Q. Is Stellar Shield an AntiVirus software
?
A. No, Stellar Shield is not an anti virus software.
It recovers the files even after they are infected by
a virus. You also have the option of rebuilding the
hard disk i.e. restoring back your entire files onto
the same hard disk.
Q. Can it repair BAD Sectors ?
A. Shield recovers data and files from inaccessible
drives. Technically bad sectors can not be fixed.
Q. Is Shield a repair tool like NDD or Scandisk
?
A. No, Shield is not a repair tool. It never writes
or tries to repair the hard disk. It only copies the
latest system information available in the image file.
Q. How much system resources does it takes
?
A. Shield requires disk space and memory for a very
short period of time. The performance of the system
remains the same after Shield installation.
Q. I've a Disk Manager partitioned/formatted
Hard Disk. Will Shield work with that?
A. Yes, Shield will work if you have DM partitioned/formatted
hard disk.
