How to Recover
Stellar Phoenix Lotus Notes Recovery 2.0 repairs the damaged NSF file and restores the related objects in a 3-step process. In this process, firstly you should 'Select' the corrupt NSF file and provide the location where you want to save the repaired NSF file. After that, you should 'Scan' the selected NSF file to see the repairable NSF objects. Once you assured with the repairable Lotus Notes objects, you should 'Save' the repaired contents in a new NSF file at the provided location.
The Lotus Notes File Recovery software features various toolbar and menu bar options that aid while repairing the file. On starting the recovery application, it displays a dialog-box that allows you to search the corrupted NSF file. It further allows (gives an option) changing the location of the repaired NSF file and, lists the file repair steps in concise form.
The initial 'Select NSF File' dialog box has six buttons described underneath:
- Select NSF File: This button allows you to browse for locating the required NSF file from a pre-determined location. It opens a dialog-box that can be used to select the file directly.
- Find NSF File: This option helps in situations in which you don't know the exact file location, but the root folder or drive. It opens a 'Search Options' dialog box that lets you select the target folder or drive and locate the corrupt NSF file(s). It searches and enlists all the file(s) with *.nsf extension in 'Search Results' box and allows to select any of them. The 'Search Results' box also has a 'Clear List' button to clear the search results and start a new search.
- Change Destination: By default, the software restores the new NSF file at the root location (generally, C:\program files\lotus\notes\data). However, the 'Change Destination' option allows changing that.
- Start: On selecting the NSF file and specifying restoration location, the 'Start' button gets activated and when pressed scans the file. The scanning status is shown simultaneously.
Note: The software takes approximately 30-45 minutes to scan a 1 GB file.
- Help: This button opens the help file of Lotus Notes Recovery software.
- Close: This button closes the dialog box.

You can follow these steps to recover file using Lotus Notes File Recovery software:
- Start the application. Select or search the NSF file using 'Select NSF File' dialog box. If you close this dialog box initially, reopen it using 'Select NSF File to Repair' toolbar option or using 'Open' menubar option.
- Click 'Change Destination' to specify the location for storing the file, which, by default, is the root or default location. The file scanning process starts.
- After completing the scan, the software displays the details of the recovery process, including file specifications (name and path) of the restored file along with the number of e-mails, contacts, and other objects it recovers.
The recovered file is saved with the same name and extension, but with a prefix 'Recovered' in a folder that is named in a specific format- 'Recovered_day_month_date_time'.
Important to Note:
- In demo version of software, you can view only five items per folder. The actual file restored by the software has all the items that it could recover.
- IBM Lotus Notes should be installed to run the demo or full version of the software
- The demo version also creates a separate NSF file with contents same as the application.
- The demo version allows previewing ONLY the headers (No Content) of emails and attachments
