Data Recovery Tab is the first tab that appears when the software window opens. This tab gives further options to the users :

Quick Recovery : This option scans the entire hard disk for all data on it (present and deleted).
Advanced Scan : This option scans every block of the iPod and lists all the files that are found by scanning. It takes longer than the "Quick Recovery" but is far more efficient.
Deleted File Recovery : This option only scans for deleted files. It does not show you files present on the iPod/system.

Resume Recovery Tab allows resuming the recovery process by loading pre-scanned or pre-imaged file and recovers all the data shown in the loaded file. So, if you save the scan information of a deleted file recovery process then you can perform deleted file recovery using that scan information file.

Create Image Tab is used to create image of the storage area of the iPod. The image taken is a single file of the storage device that contains the complete structure along with all the content of the iPod. This is done by taking a block-by-block copy of the iPod and replicating the structure and the content of the storage device.

Every time we scan an iPod with bad sectors/blocks for data recovery, the scanning takes a lot of time to get completed. However, on imaging the area and scanning the image file thus created, the scanning is faster and efficient as imaging is done only of good sectors. Also, there is no need to attach the iPod if recovery is performed using image file. The location where you save the image file should have space greater or equal to the total space of iPod.
