Running outdated macOS can sometimes cause numerous system issues and glitches. If you cannot mount an external hard drive on a Mac, it could be due to an unresolved bug or outdated drivers related to storage drives. Under the <strong>Locations<\/strong> section, select the <strong>External disks<\/strong> checkbox. Ensure that the <strong>&ldquo;Show All Devices&rdquo;<\/strong> option is selected.<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Press <strong>Command + Space Bar<\/strong> to open <strong>Spotlight<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Type <strong><em>disk utility<\/em><\/strong> and hit <strong>Return<\/strong> to open Disk Utility.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the <strong>View<\/strong> menu located at the top-left corner of Disk Utility and select <strong>Show All Devices<\/strong>. You can resolve such connectivity issues by trying these simple troubleshooting tips &ndash;<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Reconnect the USB connector or adapter to fit the hard drive snugly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Connect the hard drive to a different USB port or a different Mac.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Replace the USB cable or adapter if you suspect it to be damaged.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Connect an external power source if the hard drive requires one.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check the LED light to ensure the storage device is powered on and working.<\/li>\n<\/ul><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Method 4: Troubleshoot External Hard Drive with Disk Utility<\/h3><p>Sometimes, when you connect an external hard drive to your Mac, it appears grayed out on the desktop and other locations, possibly due to some logical errors. You can troubleshoot such disk-related issues via First Aid in Disk Utility. Here&rsquo;s what to do &ndash;<\/p><p><strong>Mount the external hard drive from Disk Utility.<\/strong><\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open <strong>Disk Utility<\/strong>, then select the grayed-out hard drive from the sidebar.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the <strong>Mount<\/strong> tab. If you find a possibility of imminent drive failure, you can clone the drive on a new, healthy hard drive.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Method 5: Mount External HDD via Terminal Using the &lsquo;diskutil list&rsquo; Command<\/h3><p>You can also use the Terminal to mount the external HDD on your Mac. To do that &ndash;<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Launch <strong>Terminal<\/strong> via Spotlight.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Type the command <strong>diskutil list<\/strong> into the Terminal command window. It will display each disk that is connected to your Mac. Connect the external drive and ensure that it is at least showing in Disk Utility.
