Soon after their installation, users in every nook and corner of the world started getting stuck in BitLocker recovery loops or got these Secure Boot-related errors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Late April &ndash; Early May 2026:<\/strong> These problems of boot issues increased in forums and IT communities. Users started to realize that rolling back this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/3-reasons-why-you-should-update-your-pcs-bios\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BIOS update<\/a> resolved the problem.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>May 11, 2026:<\/strong> HP acknowledged their issue and released their support advisory with temporary workarounds.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Late May 2026:<\/strong> Many tech publications reported on the problem and at the same time HP and Microsoft investigated the faulty BIOS update.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>June 2026:<\/strong> With the Secure Boot certificate transition deadline reached, these affected systems basically just required a firmware tweak or roll back of BIOS to restore normal BitLocker and Secure Boot functionality.<\/li>\n<\/ul><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"how-the-bios-update-broke-bitlocker\"><a><\/a><strong>How the BIOS Update Broke BitLocker<\/strong><\/h2><p>BitLocker actually uses the TPM chip to verify that the system boot environment is not changed. If the system is otherwise damaged, you may opt to rebuild Windows and restore files later.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"bitlocker-recovery-key-retrieval\"><a><\/a><strong>BitLocker Recovery Key Retrieval<\/strong><\/h2><p>If you need your BitLocker recovery key, your search actually depends on the setup you have here.<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For normal <strong>personal PCs that are linked to a Microsoft account<\/strong>, open <strong>account.microsoft.com\/devices<\/strong> and open your device there to view the BitLocker key.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On <strong>organization PC systems<\/strong>, the key is basically stored in <strong>Azure AD or Intune<\/strong> from where admins can retrieve it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In an <strong>on-prem Active Directory setup<\/strong>, it can be available under device object in the <strong>BitLocker Recovery tab<\/strong>. It is also saved maybe as a <strong>printed copy or USB backup<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul><p>Once you have obtained that key of yours, the drive can then be unlocked using <em>manage-bde -unlock C: -RecoveryPassword &lt;key&gt;<\/em> for real.
