Since the cause of the error may differ for users, it could become difficult to predict the right solution that would apply in your case. The best strategy would be to start with the first solution. If that does not work for you, move to the next solution.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"methods-to-fix-quickbooks-error-6123\"><strong>Methods to Fix QuickBooks Error 6123<\/strong><\/h2><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-very-dark-gray-color has-text-color\">Method 1 &ndash; Rename the .ND and .TLG files<\/h3><p>The file name extensions .<strong>ND<\/strong> and <strong>.TLG<\/strong> may be unknown to you but they are part of QuickBooks files. These files contain the configuration and settings required to open QuickBooks in a multi-user environment.<\/p><p>When the .ND and .TLG files become corrupt for any reason, which could result in a QuickBooks 6123 error. A simple solution to fix this issue is to rename these files. There is no harm in renaming these files as it does not cause any data loss. In fact, when you use the QuickBooks Database Server Manager to rescan, these files will be automatically created. <\/p><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Here are the steps to rename the .ND and .TLG files<\/h4><ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Navigate to the folder where your company file is located.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the next step, search for files with extensions.ND and .TLG. Make sure these files have the same names as your company files, such as:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>(company name _file).qbw.nd<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>(company name _file).qbw.tlg<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Now, right-click the files and select the Rename option.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To differentiate files, add &ldquo;OLD&rdquo; or any other word of your choice at the end of the file. Remember to add the word to the extension and not the file name.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>(company name _file).qbw.nd.OLD<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>(company name _file).qbw.tlg.OLD<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open QuickBooks and sign in to your company file. If the error persists, move to the next solution.<\/li>\n<\/ol><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Method 2 &ndash; Set Proper Folder Permissions<\/h3><p>QuickBooks can throw up the 6123 error if you don&rsquo;t have the requisite permissions to the folder where the company file is located. In that case, setting up proper folder permissions could resolve the error. <\/p><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Here are the steps to set up proper folder permissions<\/h4><ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Right-click the folder where the company file is located and select <strong>Properties<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the Properties window, click the Security tab and then click <strong>Advanced<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select QBDataServiceUserXX and then click on the <strong>Edit<\/strong> option.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make sure the following settings are set to <strong>Allowed<\/strong>:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Traverse Folder\/Execute File<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>List Folder\/Read Data<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Read Attributes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Read Extended Attributes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Create Files\/Write Data<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Create Folders\/Append Data<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Write Attributes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Write Extended Attributes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Read Permissions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol><p>If you see the folder settings are not set to &ldquo;Allowed&rdquo;, you need to make changes to the folder permissions by following the steps given below:<\/p><ol start=\"5\">\n<li>Press the Windows logo key and E simultaneously on the keyboard to open File Explorer.<\/li>\n<li>Navigate to the folder where the company file is located.<\/li>\n<li>Right-click the folder and select Properties.<\/li>\n<li>In the Properties window, go to the Security tab and select &ldquo;<strong>Everyone<\/strong>&ldquo;.<\/li>\n<li>If the &ldquo;Everyone&rdquo; option is not listed, you need to add it.<\/li>\n<li>Click on &ldquo;Add&rdquo; and type &ldquo;Everyone&rdquo; in the box.<\/li>\n<li>Click on OK.<\/li>\n<li>Select the Full Control option.<\/li>\n<li>Click Apply and then click OK to close the window.<\/li>\n<\/ol><p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#e7e7e7\"><strong>Note<\/strong>: You need to change folder permissions to all folders given in the list below. There is a possibility that some folder names may not be in your QuickBooks installation. This is because different versions of QuickBooks Desktop may have different folders. Remember to change folder permissions only if they exist on your PC.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Here is the list of the folders whose permissions need to be set to Full Control. <\/h3><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>C:\\Program Data\\Intuit\\Entitlement Client\\v8<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>C:\\Program Data\\Intuit\\Entitlement Client\\v6.0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>C:\\Program Data\\Intuit\\Entitlement Client\\v5<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>C:\\Program Data\\Intuit\\Entitlement Client\\v3<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>C:\\Program Data\\Intuit\\Entitlement Client<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>C:\\Program Data\\Intuit\\QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions X.0 (X = version) or C:\\Program Data\\Intuit\\QuickBooks 20XX.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>C:\\Program Data\\COMMON FILES\\INTUIT<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>C:\\Program Data\\COMMON FILES\\INTUIT\\QUICKBOOKS<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>C:\\Users\\Public\\Public Documents\\Intuit\\QuickBooks\\FAMXX (XX = year)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>C:\\Users\\Public\\Public Documents\\Intuit\\QuickBooks\\Company Files<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>C:\\Users\\Public\\Public Documents\\Intuit\\QuickBooks\\Sample Company Files\\QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions X.0 (X = version) or C:\\Users\\Public\\Public Documents\\Intuit\\QuickBooks\\Sample Company Files\\QuickBooks 20XX (where XX = year) <\/li>\n<\/ul><p>After you have changed the folder permissions, open QuickBooks and sign into your company file. If the error remains unresolved, move to the next solution.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Method 3 &ndash; Move the Company File to a New Location<\/h3><p>If the path of the folder in which your company file is located is too long or complicated, the software might have trouble accessing it. A simple solution to this problem is moving the company file to a new location. You can try copying the file to the desktop and see if it resolves the issue. <\/p><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Here are the steps to follow:<\/h4><ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Navigate to the folder where your company file is located.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Search for files which have the same file name as your company name but with QBW extension.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Right-click on the file and click on Copy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Navigate to the desktop. Right-click anywhere on the desktop and click Paste.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hold down the Ctrl key and open QuickBooks. This will take you to the &ldquo;No Company Open&rdquo; window.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select\nOpen and navigate to the desktop<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the company file that you had copied to the Desktop.<\/li>\n<\/ol><p>If the error disappears, you can conclude that there was a problem with the path of the folder where the company file was earlier located.
