In addition, you need to migrate the mailboxes and other data to the newer version. As migration sometimes can be tricky, you need to follow the best practices to ensure smooth migration process.<\/p><p>One of the best practices when it comes to migration is to run a test batch. You should always test migrate a few mailboxes to check the speed and performance of the destination server. This will help avoid any blockade during the migration and ensure faster migration.<\/p><p>While moving the mailboxes from your existing server to the destination server, you may encounter the &lsquo;<strong>StalledDueToSource_DiskLatency<\/strong>&rsquo; or &lsquo;<strong>StalledDueToTarget_DiskLatency<\/strong>&rsquo; error.<\/p><div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"481\" height=\"259\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/StalledDueToSource_DiskLatency.png\" alt=\"Error Screanshot\n\n\" class=\"wp-image-109933 apply-gradient-on-post-images\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/StalledDueToSource_DiskLatency.png 481w, https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/StalledDueToSource_DiskLatency-300x162.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 481px) 100vw, 481px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div><p>As a result, you may stuck in the export loop and fail to export or migrate the mailboxes from your existing server to the destination server. This can also inflate the destination PST file and may end up consuming all the storage on your server drive.<\/p><p>To fix this issue, you must be aware of the reasons that lead to the <strong>StalledDueToSource_DiskLatency<\/strong> or <strong>StalledDueToTarget_DiskLatency<\/strong> error. It is observed that the error occurs due to one or more reasons mentioned below:<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Disk performance issues either on the source disk (where database\/mailbox is stored) or target disk (destination drive where PST is being saved).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Insufficient system resources.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Existing export requests in the queue.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The response time from the source or target disk is very high and the migration batch or export is timed out.<\/li>\n<\/ul><p>However, there are a few workarounds discussed below that you may follow to overcome the error and successfully export all your mailboxes to PST and import them into your new server.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"solutions-to-fix-mailbox-export-stalled-due-to-source-or-target-disk-latency-error\"><strong>Solutions to Fix Mailbox Export Stalled Due to Source or Target Disk Latency Error<\/strong><\/h2><p>To resolve the errors <strong>StalledDueToSource_DiskLatency<\/strong> and <strong>StalledDueToTarget_DiskLatency<\/strong>, do the following:<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-check-disk-performance\"><strong>1. Check Disk Performance<\/strong><\/h3><p>The first thing to check is the disk performance. Check your RAID or disk management software or the data store status from your hypervisor.<\/p><p>Check if your server has a hard drive(s) that may soon fail. Usually, such disks are marked by the SAN or RAID manager.<\/p><p>Further, check if the hard drive is not performing well due to its lower RPM or data transfer speed. In such a case, consider upgrading the disks with server-grade drives or replacing them with SSD drives.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-verify-server-health-and-available-system-resources\"><strong>2. Verify Server Health and Available System Resources<\/strong><\/h3><p>Check the system resources using the&nbsp;<strong>Performance Monitor&nbsp;<\/strong>on the Windows Server hosting the source Exchange Server or mailbox database by monitoring&nbsp;<strong>MS Exchange Replication&nbsp;<\/strong>and&nbsp;<strong>MS Exchange Replication Server,&nbsp;<\/strong>along with the <strong>Average Disk Sec<\/strong> for Write and Read.<\/p><div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"340\" height=\"238\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/MS-Exchange-Replication-Server.png\" alt=\"MS Exchange Replication and&nbsp;MS Exchange Replication Server Option Window\" class=\"wp-image-109934 apply-gradient-on-post-images\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/MS-Exchange-Replication-Server.png 340w, https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/MS-Exchange-Replication-Server-300x210.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 340px) 100vw, 340px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div><div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"338\" height=\"359\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Average-Disk-Sec.png\" alt=\"Average Disk Sec for Write and Read option Window\" class=\"wp-image-109935 apply-gradient-on-post-images\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Average-Disk-Sec.png 338w, https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Average-Disk-Sec-282x300.png 282w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 338px) 100vw, 338px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div><p>Similarly, check the <strong>Performance Monitor&nbsp;<\/strong>on the Windows Server hosting the target Exchange Server.<\/p><div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"681\" height=\"90\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Performance-Monitor.png\" alt=\"Performance Monitor Window\" class=\"wp-image-109936 apply-gradient-on-post-images\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Performance-Monitor.png 681w, https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Performance-Monitor-300x40.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 681px) 100vw, 681px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div><p>After making the required changes, run the move requests again and analyze the data storage.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Clear Existing or Old Export Requests<\/strong><\/h3><p>You can also check if there are any old move requests which need to be cleaned out. This is important as there could be other stuck export requests or old requests which are hindering your Exchange Server performance and PST export.<\/p><p>You can remove the old or existing requests using the&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/powershell\/module\/exchange\/remove-moverequest?view=exchange-ps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Remove-MoveRequest<\/a>&nbsp;<\/strong>PowerShell cmdlet.<\/p><pre class=\"wp-block-code command_container\"><code><code>Remove-MoveRequest &ndash;Identity &ldquo;abc@xyz.com&rdquo;<\/code><\/code><\/pre><p>Next, add the new move request using the&nbsp;<strong>&ndash;Priority&nbsp;<\/strong>parameter as shown below.<\/p><pre class=\"wp-block-code command_container\"><code><code>New-MoveRequest &ndash;Identity &ldquo;abc@xyz.com&rdquo; &ndash;BatchName &ldquo;TestMigration&rdquo; &ndash;Priority Highest<\/code><\/code><\/pre><p>This will execute the move request with the highest priority. With this, your export job may relinquish and start over again.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4. Suspend Move Requests<\/strong><\/h3><p>If you have a large number of move requests, you can try to first suspend the stalled mailboxes and after about 10 minutes, resume them. This can be done by using the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/powershell\/module\/exchange\/suspend-moverequest?view=exchange-ps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Suspend-MoveRequest<\/a>&nbsp;<\/strong>and&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/powershell\/module\/exchange\/resume-moverequest?view=exchange-ps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Resume-MoveRequest<\/a>&nbsp;<\/strong>PowerShell cmdlets (see the examples below).<\/p><pre class=\"wp-block-code command_container\"><code><code>Suspend-MoveRequest &ndash;Identity &ldquo;abc@xyz.com&rdquo;<\/code><br><br><code>Resume-Moverequest &ndash;Identity &ldquo;abc@xyz.com&rdquo;<\/code><\/code><\/pre><figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"How to Fix &ldquo;Mailbox Export Stalled Due to Source Disk Latency&rdquo; Error?\" width=\"750\" height=\"422\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/u4D2J7n7TJU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"conclusion\"><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/h2><p>We have shared the workarounds in this article to help you overcome the <strong>StalledDueToSource_DiskLatency<\/strong> and <strong>StalledDueToTarget_DiskLatency<\/strong> error messages.
