To check, follow these:<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In QuickBooks&reg;, go to<em> Preferences<\/em> and check the backup directory or path where you want to save the backup company files<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Verify the path and check if it&rsquo;s valid and accessible<\/li>\n<\/ul><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-white-background-color has-background\"><strong>Step 4: Check and Rename the Company File (.QBW)<\/strong><\/h3><p>QBW file name\nshould not contain any special characters. Also, the number of characters in the\nname should be 65 or less. <\/p><p><strong><em>NOTE: <\/em><\/strong><em>If you use Loan Manager in QuickBooks&reg;, recreate loan manager\ninformation after renaming the company file.<\/em><\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to your company file\nlocation <em>C:\\ Users\\ Public\\ Public\nDocuments\\ Intuit\\ QuickBooks\\ <\/em>&nbsp;and\ncheck the file name<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Right-click on the file and\nchoose the Rename option<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remove extra and special\ncharacters from the file name. You may also rename the company file<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Press &lsquo;<em>Enter<\/em>&rsquo; and that&rsquo;s it<\/li>\n<\/ul><p>Now try to back up your QuickBooks&reg; data.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-white-background-color has-background\"><strong>Step 5: Rename Network Data (.ND) File<\/strong><\/h3><p>You can&rsquo;t back up a company file if the .ND\nfile is damaged or you have moved the .QBW file to a different location on the PC\nwithout moving the corresponding .ND file during upgrade.<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open Windows File Explorer and go to <em>C:\\ Users\\ Public\\ Public Documents\\ Intuit\\ QuickBooks\\ <\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The .ND file has the same name as your company file with .ND extension<\/li>\n<\/ul><p class=\"has-very-light-gray-background-color has-background\"><em>MyCompanyFile.nd <\/em><br>Or,<br><em>MyCompanyFile.qbw.nd<\/em><\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Right-click on the .ND file and\nchoose &lsquo;<em>Rename<\/em>&rsquo;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add <strong>.old<\/strong> at the end of the file name extension and press &lsquo;<em>Enter<\/em>&rsquo; to save<\/li>\n<\/ul><div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"454\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Rename-ND-file.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-130372 apply-gradient-on-post-images\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Rename-ND-file.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Rename-ND-file-300x170.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Rename-ND-file-768x436.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Rename-ND-file-150x85.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div><p>If you have moved\nthe .QBW to a different location, copy the .ND file and paste it at the same\nlocation. <\/p><p>Go back to QuickBooks&reg; backup option and try to back up the company file again.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-white-background-color has-background\"><strong>Step 6: Use QuickBooks&reg; Rebuild Data Utility<\/strong><\/h3><p>QuickBooks&reg; has an option to rebuild\ncompany files.
