However, the data recovery process can take time, preventing you from using the data files for several days. But, using the QuickBooks Auto Data Recovery (ADR) feature, you can quickly recover your data in case of data loss or corruption.<\/p><blockquote class=\"note_alert\">\n<p><em><strong>Note:<\/strong> Intuit recommends using the <strong>ADR feature<\/strong> only after troubleshooting the QB issue using the appropriate solutions.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"what-is-quickbooks-auto-data-recovery-and-how-it-works?\"><strong>What is QuickBooks Auto Data Recovery and How it Works?<\/strong><\/h2><p>Auto Data Recovery (ADR) is a built-in recovery feature of QuickBooks&reg; Desktop (QBDT). &nbsp;It helps recover and restore lost QB data by performing any of these actions:<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use the latest Transaction Log (.TLG Log) file&nbsp;and a copy of the&nbsp;Company file (.QBW) to restore the recent transactions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use a copy of both .QBW file and .TLG file to restore&nbsp;all the data except for the transactions performed in the last few hours.<\/li>\n<\/ul><p><strong>Before discussing the solutions to recover lost data using ADR, a few pointers to consider:<\/strong><\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>ADR feature is available in QuickBooks&reg; Pro, Premier, and Enterprise Editions for Windows. It is not available in Accountant Editions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>QB cannot generate an ADR file exceeding 1.5 Gigabytes.<\/li>\n<\/ul><p><strong>Tip!<\/strong> If you want to recover data from a corrupted backup file greater than 1.5 GB, try using a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/file-repair\/quickbooks-recovery\/quickbooks-recovery.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">QuickBooks&reg; data recovery tool<\/a> that can repair and recover a backup file of any size.<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Install latest updates on QuickBooks&reg; Desktop.<\/li>\n<\/ul><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"solutions-to-recover-quickbooks&reg;-data-using-auto-data-recovery-tool\"><strong>Solutions to Recover QuickBooks<\/strong><strong>&reg;<\/strong><strong> Data using Auto Data Recovery Tool<\/strong><\/h2><p>There are two solutions to recover QB data using the ADR tool:<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-solution-1-use-tlg-file-with-qbw-adr-file-to-recover-recent-transactions\"><strong>Solution 1 &ndash; Use .TLG file with .QBW.adr File to Recover Recent Transactions<\/strong><\/h3><p>This solution requires using the original Transaction Log (.TLG) file and ADR version of the QBW file to recover the recent transactions. Here&rsquo;s how:<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>On your Windows desktop, create a new folder, let&rsquo;s say<strong> QBTest<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Next, browse and open the folder where your company file is saved.<\/li>\n<\/ul><p><strong>Tip:<\/strong>&nbsp;If you are not aware of the company file location, you can find it by clicking the&nbsp;&lsquo;<strong>Product Information&rsquo;<\/strong>&nbsp;screen and&nbsp;then the &lsquo;<strong>No Company Open Window&rsquo;<\/strong>.<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Once you&rsquo;ve located your company file&rsquo;s folder, search the&nbsp;<strong>.tlg<\/strong>&nbsp;file by finding a file with the same name as the company file. If you cannot find a file with .tlg extension, perform these steps to show file extensions:<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open&nbsp;<strong>File Explorer<\/strong>&nbsp;by clicking&nbsp;&lsquo;<strong>Windows<\/strong><strong>+E<\/strong>&rsquo;&nbsp;on your keyboard.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the File Explorer window, click&nbsp;<strong>Organize<\/strong>, and then select&nbsp;<strong>Folder and search options<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul><p><strong>Note:<\/strong> For&nbsp;<strong>Windows 10, 8.1 &amp; 8 system:<\/strong>&nbsp;Click&nbsp;<strong>View<\/strong> and choose&nbsp;<strong>File name extension<\/strong>.<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Check the&nbsp;&ldquo;<strong>Hide extensions for known file types&rdquo; checkbox<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Apply<\/strong>, and then&nbsp;press the <strong>OK button.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Copy the Transaction Log (.TLG) file of your company file, and paste the copied file to the&nbsp;<strong>QBTest<\/strong>&nbsp;folder (created in Step 1).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Now open the <strong>QuickBooksAutoDataRecovery<\/strong>&nbsp;folder. The folder is located in the same folder as the company (QBW) file.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Copy and paste the&nbsp;<strong>.QBW.adr<\/strong>&nbsp;file to the&nbsp;<strong>QBTest<\/strong>&nbsp;folder.<\/li>\n<\/ul><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"929\" height=\"322\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Copy-QBW-adr-file-1.png\" alt=\"QBTest preview\" class=\"wp-image-76905 apply-gradient-on-post-images\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Copy-QBW-adr-file-1.png 929w, https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Copy-QBW-adr-file-1-300x104.png 300w, https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Copy-QBW-adr-file-1-768x266.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 929px) 100vw, 929px\" \/><\/figure><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You will now have both a .TLG and <strong>.QBW.adr<\/strong> file on the QBTest folder.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rename the QBW.adr file by right-clicking on it, and choosing&nbsp;<strong>Rename in <\/strong>the QBTest folder.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Delete&nbsp;<strong>.adr<\/strong>&nbsp;at the end of the newly renamed QBW.adr file.<\/li>\n<\/ul><div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"686\" height=\"353\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/delete-adr.png\" alt=\"QBW adr files\" class=\"wp-image-76914 apply-gradient-on-post-images\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/delete-adr.png 686w, https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/delete-adr-300x154.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 686px) 100vw, 686px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-solution-2-use-copies-of-company-file-and-transaction-log-files-to-recover-transactions\"><strong>Solution 2 &ndash; Use Copies of Company File and Transaction Log Files to Recover Transactions<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Now open QuickBooks and open the company file saved on the QBTest folder.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use your account register to verify all transactions are there.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Next, check the integrity of the recovered file data by clicking&nbsp;<strong>File<\/strong>&nbsp;&gt;&nbsp;<strong>Utilities<\/strong>&nbsp;&gt;&nbsp;<strong>Verify Data<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the copy of the company file contains the data you want, move the corrupted company file (QBW) to a different location. And then, and save the copy of QBW file from&nbsp;<strong>QBTest<\/strong>&nbsp;to the original location.<\/li>\n<\/ul><p>This solution requires using the .QBW.adr and .TLG.adr files to recover all the transactions except the last 12 hours of transactions. For this, do the following:<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Create a new folder named <strong>QBTest or any other on desktop.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open the folder containing the QBW file and search for&nbsp;<strong>QuickBooksAutoDataRecovery<\/strong>&nbsp;folder.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the <strong>QuickBooksAutoDataRecovery<\/strong>&nbsp;folder, locate the&nbsp;<strong>.TLG.adr<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>.QBW.adr<\/strong>&nbsp;files. The files have the same name as the company file. For example, if the name of company file is &ldquo;MyCompanyName.QBW&rdquo;, then the look for &lsquo;My CompanyName.QBW.adr and &ldquo;MyCompanyName.TLG.adr&rdquo;.<\/li>\n<\/ul><p>Note: If you fail to identify the&nbsp;<strong>.QBW.adr<\/strong>&nbsp;and <strong>.TLG.adr<\/strong>&nbsp;files, your files might be hidden. In that case, you&rsquo;ll need to show file extensions.<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Copy and paste the&nbsp;<strong>.TLG.adr<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>.QBW.adr<\/strong>&nbsp;files to the&nbsp;<strong>QBTest<\/strong>&nbsp;folder.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the QBTest folder, remove <strong>.adr<\/strong>&nbsp;from the end of the Transaction Log and Company files name.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open QuickBooks&reg; and then open your company file that is located in the <strong>QBTest<\/strong>&nbsp;folder. Verify all the transactions by using your account register.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use the <strong>Verify Data <\/strong>utility to check the accuracy of the data of the recovered file. To open the utility, click <strong>File<\/strong>, hover over <strong>Utilities,<\/strong>&nbsp;and then click&nbsp;<strong>Verify Data<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the copy of the company file (i.e., the recovered file) has all the data you need, move the damaged QBW file to a different location and save the QBW file&rsquo;s copy from&nbsp;<strong>QBTest<\/strong>&nbsp;to the original location.<\/li>\n<\/ul><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"what-else-can-you-do-to-recover-lost-quickbooks&reg;-data?\"><strong>What Else Can You Do to Recover Lost QuickBooks<\/strong><strong>&reg;<\/strong><strong> Data?<\/strong><\/h2><p>If the QuickBooks Auto Data File Recovery feature fails to restore the lost data, use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/file-repair\/quickbooks-recovery\/quickbooks-recovery.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Stellar Repair for QuickBooks&reg; Software<\/a> to recover all the data. To preview recoverable data of the Customers, Vendors, and Employees, click on the respective tabs. It uses a Transaction Log (.TLG) file and a backup copy of Company file (.QBW) to recover the recent transactions. If the original.TLG file is not available, you can use a copy of the .TLG file and .QBW file to recover all data except for the recent transactions. However, ADR won&rsquo;t work if you not have a copy of your company file. Also, it cannot recover data from QBB file greater than 1.5 GB.
