That is because the database file is prone to corruption if multiple users open it. Also, sharing an unsplit Access database with forms, modules, reports, all in one database file may cause the inconsistent state error.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"workarounds-to-fix-the-&lsquo;access-database-inconsistent-state&rsquo;-error\">Workarounds to Fix the &lsquo;Access Database Inconsistent State&rsquo; Error<\/h2><p>Following are some effective workarounds you can try to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/support\/kb\/index.php\/article\/repair-access-error-database-needs-repair\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">repair the MS Access database<\/a>&nbsp;that is in an inconsistent state.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-workaround-1-disable-leasing-on-the-system-where-the-shared-database-is-stored\">Workaround 1: Disable Leasing on the System Hosting the Database<\/h3><p><strong>Note: <\/strong>This workaround applies to Access 2019, 2016, 2013, and Access for MS Office 365.<\/p><p>According to Microsoft, the users can fix the issue by disabling leasing on the machine where the shared Access database is stored. Here are the steps to do so:<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click&nbsp;the<strong> Start<\/strong>&nbsp;button on Windows, and type&nbsp;<strong>Command<\/strong>.&nbsp;Right-click on&nbsp;<strong>Command Prompt&nbsp;<\/strong>and select&nbsp;<strong>Run as administrator<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Copy and paste the following into the command prompt window:<\/li>\n<\/ul><figure class=\"wp-block-table is-style-stripes\"><table><tbody><tr><td>REG ADD HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Services\\lanmanserver\\parameters \/v DisableLeasing \/t REG_DWORD \/d 1 \/f NET STOP SERVER NET START SERVER<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Exit the&nbsp;command prompt window.<\/li>\n<\/ul><p>After performing these steps, try to open your Access database. If you are still getting the &lsquo;Access database in inconsistent state&rsquo; error, skip to the next solution.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-workaround-2-run-compact-and-repair-utility\">Workaround 2: Run the Compact and Repair Utility<\/h3><p>Some Access users have reported that they were able to resolve the issue by running the Microsoft Access &lsquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/office\/compact-and-repair-a-database-6ee60f16-aed0-40ac-bf22-85fa9f4005b2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Compact and Repair<\/a>&rsquo; utility. The utility performs two functions. Firstly, it compacts the database by releasing the deleted space which is still held by the database and only serves to corrupt the database and fragment the stored data. To do so, follow these steps:<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Right-click on Windows desktop, click <strong>New<\/strong>, and then click <strong>Shortcut<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In &lsquo;Create Shortcut&rsquo; dialog box, type the location of the Access.exe file in double-quotes. And then, type the command line switch for Access to compact and repair the target database. For example:<\/li>\n<\/ul><p>&ldquo;<strong>C: \\pathtoAccess\\msaccess.exe<\/strong>&rdquo; &ldquo;<strong>C:\\pathtodatabase\\database.mdb<\/strong>&rdquo; \/repair.<\/p><p><strong>Note<\/strong>:&nbsp;Here, replace the pathtoAccess and pathtodatabase with the actual path of your Access folder and database.<\/p><p>If this doesn&rsquo;t help resolve the &lsquo;database is in an inconsistent state&rsquo; issue, try the next workaround.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-workaround-4-import-data-to-a-new-database\">Workaround 4: Import the Data into a New Database<\/h3><p>If the &lsquo;Compact and Repair&rsquo; utility fails to fix Access database corruption errors, create a new database and try to import a table into it. If successful, you can import all the tables into the new database.
