Sometimes, while upgrading from one Exchange Server to another,&nbsp;upgraded Exchange users get the following error:<\/p><div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"776\" height=\"423\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/1-Restart-Outlook.jpg\" alt=\"Restart Outlook\" class=\"wp-image-84625 apply-gradient-on-post-images\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/1-Restart-Outlook.jpg 776w, https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/1-Restart-Outlook-300x164.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/1-Restart-Outlook-768x419.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 776px) 100vw, 776px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div><p><strong><em>The Microsoft Exchange administrator has made a change that requires you to quit and restart Outlook.<\/em><\/strong><\/p><p>This error occurs after the mailbox migration from one Exchange Server to another. When the users open Outlook, it prompt an error saying that the Administrator made some changes and that it requires the user to restart Outlook.<\/p><p>There is no harm in this as these things happen. However, when it reoccurs every time the user closes and reopens Outlook or when the user restarts the devices, it will be a burden and an annoyance to the user.<\/p><p>Here are the steps to fix &ldquo;The Microsoft Exchange administrator has made a change that requires you quit and restart Outlook&rdquo; error:<em><u><\/u><\/em><\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"step-1:-create-a-new-profile-\"><strong>Step 1: Create a New Profile <\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2><p>The first thing to do is <strong>create a new profile<\/strong>&nbsp;for the user on Outlook.<\/p><blockquote class=\"note_alert\">\n<p><strong><em>Note:<\/em><\/strong><em>&nbsp;Do not immediately delete the profile of the user. If it does not work, you would need to revert and reset everything the user profile had. <\/em><em><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote><p>Follow the below steps to create a new profile:<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to the <strong>Mail (Microsoft Outlook)<\/strong>&nbsp;option in the <strong>Control Panel<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul><div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"336\" height=\"335\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/2-create-a-new-profile.png\" alt=\"create a new profile\" class=\"wp-image-84626 apply-gradient-on-post-images\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/2-create-a-new-profile.png 336w, https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/2-create-a-new-profile-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/2-create-a-new-profile-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/2-create-a-new-profile-200x200.png 200w, https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/2-create-a-new-profile-80x80.png 80w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 336px) 100vw, 336px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click on the <strong>Add<\/strong>&nbsp;button, create a new profile, and enter all the details of the user. Then, tick the <strong>Prompt for a profile to be used<\/strong>. This will open a small prompt when you open Outlook, asking you which profile you want to load.<\/li>\n<\/ul><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"step-2:-remove-the-current-profile-\"><strong>Step 2: Remove the Current Profile <\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2><p>If a new profile does not work, you may also remove the current profile and then recreate the profile.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"step-3:-reinstall-the-office-\"><strong>Step 3: Reinstall the Office <\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2><p>If this fails, you can try to reinstall the Office application.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"step-4:-check-encryption-method-&amp;-cached-mode\"><strong>Step 4: Check Encryption Method &amp; Cached Mode<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2><p>The other things to check in Outlook are the Encryption method, cached mode, and the NTLM authentication. Follow these steps:<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To turn off the cached mode, open the Account Settings.<\/li>\n<\/ul><div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"302\" height=\"157\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/3-Account-Settings.png\" alt=\"Account Settings\" class=\"wp-image-84627 apply-gradient-on-post-images\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/3-Account-Settings.png 302w, https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/3-Account-Settings-300x156.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 302px) 100vw, 302px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Double click on the account and disable the <strong>Cached Exchange Mode<\/strong>. This will work with Outlook online directly.<\/li>\n<\/ul><div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"414\" height=\"129\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/4-Cached-Exchange-Mode.png\" alt=\"Cached Exchange Mode\" class=\"wp-image-84628 apply-gradient-on-post-images\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/4-Cached-Exchange-Mode.png 414w, https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/4-Cached-Exchange-Mode-300x93.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 414px) 100vw, 414px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Restart the Outlook.<\/li>\n<\/ul><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"step-5:-verify-the-outlook-anywhere-settings\"><strong>Step 5: Verify the Outlook Anywhere Settings<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2><p>If the above step does not work, you can try to verify the Outlook Anywhere settings in Exchange Sever. This can be done by using the Exchange Management Shell (EMS) and running the PowerShell command as given below.<\/p><pre class=\"wp-block-code command_container\"><code>Get-OutlookAnywhere | FL<\/code><\/pre><div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"590\" height=\"322\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/5-Get-OutlookAnywhere.png\" alt=\"Get OutlookAnywhere\" class=\"wp-image-84629 apply-gradient-on-post-images\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/5-Get-OutlookAnywhere.png 590w, https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/5-Get-OutlookAnywhere-300x164.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 590px) 100vw, 590px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div><p>This will give the information you need to verify on your Exchange Server. The IIS Authentication methods can be changed by using the Set-OutlookAnywhere command (as given below).<\/p><p>Set-OutlookAnywhere -Identity &ldquo;EX2019\\Rpc (Default Web Site)&rdquo; -SSLOffloading $true -ExternalClientAuthenticationMethod NTLM -InternalClientAuthenticationMethod NTLM -IISAuthenticationMethods Basic,NTLM,Negotiate<\/p><blockquote class=\"note_alert\">\n<p><strong><em>Note:<\/em><\/strong><em>&nbsp;This would require a restart of the Exchange Server services for the changes to take effect. So, prepare for the downtime or do the task during the maintenance window.<\/em><em><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"step-6:&nbsp;move-the-mailbox-to-another-exchange-server-mailbox-database\"><strong>Step 6:<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>Move the Mailbox to Another Exchange Server Mailbox Database<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2><p>You can also try to move the mailbox to another Exchange Server mailbox database. This can be done from the <strong>Exchange Admin Center (EAC)<\/strong>. Follow the given steps:<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>After logging in the portal, click on <strong>Recipients<\/strong>&nbsp;and then click on <strong>Migration<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on the plus (+) button and click on <strong>Move to a different database.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul><div class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"193\" height=\"100\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/6-Move-to-a-different-database-1-e1627456189774.png\" alt=\"Stellar\" class=\"wp-image-84631 apply-gradient-on-post-images\" style=\"width:407px;height:auto\"><\/figure>\n<\/div><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Select the mailbox to move and the destination database. Then click <strong>Finish<\/strong>. Once the migration job is created, you can see the status of the mailbox.<\/li>\n<\/ul><div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"622\" height=\"301\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/7-done-via-the-Exchange-Management-Shell-1.png\" alt=\"done via the Exchange Management Shell\" class=\"wp-image-84633 apply-gradient-on-post-images\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/7-done-via-the-Exchange-Management-Shell-1.png 622w, https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/7-done-via-the-Exchange-Management-Shell-1-300x145.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 622px) 100vw, 622px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This can be done via the <strong>Exchange Management Shell (EMS)<\/strong>&nbsp;by using the below PowerShell command.<\/li>\n<\/ul><pre class=\"wp-block-code command_container\"><code>New-MoveRequest -Identity user2@mail.lan -TargetDatabase db2<\/code><\/pre><div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"561\" height=\"33\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/8-done-via-PowerShell.png\" alt=\"done via PowerShell\" class=\"wp-image-84634 apply-gradient-on-post-images\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/8-done-via-PowerShell.png 561w, https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/8-done-via-PowerShell-300x18.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 561px) 100vw, 561px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"step-7:-check-attributes-in-active-directory-schema\"><strong>Step 7: Check Attributes in Active Directory Schema<\/strong><\/h2><p>If you have migrated from an older version of Exchange Server, there might be some attributes in the Active Directory Schema of the public folders that might still have some values which were not purged during the migration.<\/p><p>It is also important to note that this might occur only after you have upgraded from Exchange Server 2007 or 2010 to Exchange Server 2013 or higher. This usually occurs in a particular attribute in the Databases section.<\/p><p>Normally, you cannot see it. To modify the contents, you need to use the ADSIEDIT.MSC. This will allow you to modify the Active Directory Schema, since all the Exchange Server configurations are stored there. Use the following steps to modify Active Directory Schema:<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open the ADSIEDIT.MSC.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Right-click and click on Connect To.<\/li>\n<\/ul><div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"360\" height=\"278\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/9-Configuration.png\" alt=\"Configuration\" class=\"wp-image-84635 apply-gradient-on-post-images\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/9-Configuration.png 360w, https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/9-Configuration-300x232.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 360px) 100vw, 360px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Change the Naming Context to Configuration and click OK.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Browse to <strong>Configuration<\/strong>, <strong>Services<\/strong>, <strong>Microsoft<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>Exchange<\/strong>, <strong>First<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>Organization<\/strong>, <strong>Administrative<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>Group<\/strong>, <strong>Exchange<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>Administrative<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>Group<\/strong>, and <strong>Databases<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul><div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"762\" height=\"490\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/10-Attribute-Editor.png\" alt=\"Attribute Editor\" class=\"wp-image-84636 apply-gradient-on-post-images\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/10-Attribute-Editor.png 762w, https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/10-Attribute-Editor-300x193.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 762px) 100vw, 762px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open the database in question where the affected users are.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the <strong>Attribute Editor <\/strong>tab, find the attribute <strong>msExchHomePublicMDB<\/strong>&nbsp;and clear any entries from it that is showing as &lt;not set&gt;.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul><p>After this, the users should not receive the prompt to restart Outlook.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"conclusion\"><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2><p>You must be very careful when editing the schema, as there is no undo button if anything goes wrong.
