When you run the <strong>Get-MailboxExportRequestStatistics <\/strong>command to check the move request status, you will find the <strong>StalledDueToMRS_Quarantined<\/strong> message in the <strong>StatusDetail<\/strong> column. To further investigate, when you check the event log, you will see an error message similar to the below: &nbsp;<\/p><p><em>StalledDueToMRS_Quarantined.<\/em><\/p><p><em>FailureType : InvalidCastException<\/em><\/p><p><em>FailureSide :<\/em><\/p><p><em>Message : Request was quarantined because of following error: Unable to cast object of type &lsquo;System.String&rsquo; to type &lsquo;System.String[]&rsquo;.<\/em><\/p><p>There are various reasons that might lead to the <strong>StalledDueToMRS_Quarantined<\/strong> error. Below, we will look into the reasons for this error and see how to resolve it.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"reasons-for-the-stalledduetomrs_quarantined-error-in-exchange-server\">Reasons for the StalledDueToMRS_Quarantined Error in Exchange Server<\/h2><p>This error message can occur due the following reasons:<\/p><ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The mailbox is quarantined by the server.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The mailbox or database is corrupted.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Workload Management (WLM) throttling overrode the Mailbox Replication Service (MRS) throttling (in Exchange Server 2019).<\/li>\n<\/ol><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"solutions-to-fix-the-stalled-due-to-mrs_quarantined-error\">Solutions to Fix the Stalled Due to MRS_Quarantined Error<\/h2><p>Here are some solutions you can follow to fix the <strong>StalledDueToMRS_Quarantined <\/strong>error in Exchange Server.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Method 1: Enable Mailbox Replication Services (MRS) Proxy<\/strong><\/h3><p>Though Mailbox Replication Services support moving or migrating mailboxes locally, the MRS Proxy is required when you need to perform the cross-forest mailbox migration or to Exchange Online (remote move). If the MRS proxy endpoint is not enabled in Exchange Web Services (EWS) on your Exchange Mailbox Server (2016 or 2019), you may face issues when moving the mailboxes. So, you must check and <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/exchange\/architecture\/mailbox-servers\/mrs-proxy-endpoint?view=exchserver-2019\" rel=\"nofollow\">enable the MRS Proxy endpoint in the client access server<\/a> to facilitate cross-forest mailbox migration or to Exchange Online. &nbsp;<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Method 2: Clean Up the Mailbox<\/h3><p>If the mailbox you are trying to move\/migrate is utilizing high resources, the MRS may quarantine it to avoid the server from getting overloaded. You can clean up the mailbox by removing the unwanted data, like spam folders, deleted emails etc. For this, you need to run Outlook with <strong>cleanviews<\/strong> and <strong>cleanfinders<\/strong>.<\/p><p><strong><em>Note<\/em><\/strong><em>: You need to have an Outlook installed with the profile configured of the affected mailbox.<\/em><\/p><p>To run Outlook with cleanviews, follow these steps:<\/p><ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Right-click the <strong>Start<\/strong> button on your system and click on <strong>Run<\/strong> (or press Windows + R).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Type <strong>Outlook.exe \/cleanviews<\/strong> and click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"463\" height=\"245\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Type-Outlook.exe-cleanviews-and-click-OK.png\" alt=\"Type Outlook.exe cleanviews and click OK.\" class=\"wp-image-175195 apply-gradient-on-post-images\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Type-Outlook.exe-cleanviews-and-click-OK.png 463w, https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Type-Outlook.exe-cleanviews-and-click-OK-300x159.png 300w, https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Type-Outlook.exe-cleanviews-and-click-OK-150x79.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 463px) 100vw, 463px\" \/><\/figure><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Wait for the Outlook to start and synchronize.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Then, close Outlook.<\/li>\n<\/ul><p>To run Outlook with cleanfinders, follow the given steps:<\/p><ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open the <strong>Run<\/strong> utility (right-click the <strong>Start<\/strong> button and select <strong>Run<\/strong>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Type Outlook.exe \/cleanfinders and click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"459\" height=\"243\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Type-Outlook.exe-cleanfinders-and-click-OK.png\" alt=\"Type Outlook.exe cleanfinders and click OK.\" class=\"wp-image-175196 apply-gradient-on-post-images\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Type-Outlook.exe-cleanfinders-and-click-OK.png 459w, https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Type-Outlook.exe-cleanfinders-and-click-OK-300x159.png 300w, https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Type-Outlook.exe-cleanfinders-and-click-OK-150x79.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 459px) 100vw, 459px\" \/><\/figure><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Wait for the Outlook to start and synchronize.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When done, close the application.<\/li>\n<\/ul><p>Now, remove the move request for the mailbox that has been stalled and run the request again. If you still face the error, follow the next method.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Method 3: Increase Workload Management (WMS) Limit<\/strong><\/h3><p>In Exchange Server 2019, Workload Management (WMS) throttling is implemented, which by default allows 10 mailbox moves simultaneously from same source or to same destination. If you&rsquo;re migrating or moving more than 10 mailboxes, then you will see the CopyingMessages&nbsp;status for only 10 mailboxes and other mailboxes will show the &ldquo;stalled&rdquo; status. When a mailbox is completely moved, then the next stalled mailbox goes into the&nbsp;CopyingMessages&nbsp;state. This process continues till all the mailboxes are moved. So, you need to wait for all the move requests to complete and then check the migration move requests status. Alternatively, you can <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/exchange\/troubleshoot\/migration\/mailboxes-stalled-during-migration\" rel=\"nofollow\">extend the limit of Workload Management (WMS)<\/a> to increase the number of mailboxes to be moved simultaneously. It is to be noted that the WLM limit cannot be set more than 100.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Method 4: Disable Quarantine for the Mailbox<\/strong><\/h3><p>If the mailbox is quarantined due to any reason, the migration request will get stalled or failed.
