My emails in the 'Inbox' folder have become inaccessible. I am currently using MS Outlook 2002. How can I recover these emails as individual 'EML' files?

The 'Inbox' folder in your PST file may become inaccessible due to many reasons, such as over-sized PST file, virus infection, hard disk failure, etc. Perhaps, an over-sized PST file is the most frequent problem faced by all MS Outlook users. MS Outlook 2002 allows a maximum of 2GB size for a PST file. If the file exceeds this limit, it has maximum chances of corruption.

Few most common and important reasons of PST corruption are:

  • Oversized PST file
  • Virus infection
  • Hard Disk Failure

  • You can also search for a specific PST file in your system using 'Find' option.


  • Click 'Repair' button to begin the scanning process.

  • Once the scan is complete, all recovered mailbox folders will be displayed in the left pane. When you select a particular folder, all items in that folder will be listed in the top-right pane. You can click an item to see its preview at the bottom.

  • Click 'Find Message' to start the search process. When the search process is complete, the list of all messages that comply with the specified criteria will be displayed at the bottom. When you right-click a message in the list, you will see two options, 'Save as MSG' or 'Save as EML'. Choose 'Save as EML' to save the message in EML format.
