Why the recovered file/ folders structure is not same as original?

  January 28, 2020    224 views

After scan, often the file/ folder structure in recovery software is found to be different than the original. Sometimes the file name may also change. It is because your drive, partition or media may be highly corrupt, inaccessible or formatted. The extreme logical damage in drive, results in loss of file system information or folder definitions, due to which, it is sometimes difficult to obtain the original file folder name or structure.

Also, fragmentation of files on hard drive over time can lead to severe drive corruption, which may cause the software to not retrieve the original file structure.

Nonetheless, the software can recover the lost or deleted files even if the file/ folder structure is not same as original or the file name is changed. You can preview the found files after scan and save them at your chosen destination folder.

Note: Don’t save the recovered files in the same drive or media from which it was lost.

When data is lost from drive, make sure you -

  • Stop using the drive immediately to avoid overwriting.
  • Never try to attempt defragmentation of disk by using defragmentation utilities or updating software, etc.
