How to resolve PST access denied error after Windows 10 Update

After the Microsoft Windows OS update most of Outlook users are encrustation problems in accessing their mailboxes.  When they logged in to Outlook account it demonstrated an error message:

       “Cannot start Microsoft Outlook.  Cannot open the Outlook window.  The set of folders cannot be    opened. File access is denied. You do not have the permission required to access the file

                        C:\Users\user name\Documents\Outlook Files\Outlook.pst.

Root Cause of Outlook Error:  All this is happening because user forgot to set the permission to access Outlook PST file.  It usually happens when we update operating system. User logged on to their old Microsoft account using their updated windows with local account. They don’t know about the statistic that their Outlook PST files are still in use someplace.

Efficacious steps to resolve the Error: User can easily get rid of such kind of error by changing the permission to access their PST file. Here are the steps to set permission to their PST file.

  • Go to file location:  C:\Users\user name\Documents\Outlook Files\Outlook.pst.
  • Point to File menu select option Properties and choose Security Tab
  • Click on Edit button and choose user account
  • Now select the option “Full control” permission.
  • Close all dialogue box by clicking on OK button
  • Restart your Outlook 

By changing settings users can resolve their problem but if still problematic then there are probabilities Outlook PST have been corrupt. To repair PST file, users can opt for scanpst.exe (Inbox repair tool) or can use ScanPST.exe Alternative tool to avoid the peril of data loss as scanpst.exe would not guarantee for the efficacious regaining of data.
