Why Does Stellar Data Recovery Gets Stuck?

Stellar Data Recovery is indeed one of the best data recovery tool available that can restore data from an inaccessible, corrupt, formatted, and encrypted storage media. However, in some rare scenarios, the tool might get stuck while performing recovery on Windows system as reported by few users.

Here are few solutions to help you avoid Stellar Data Recovery from getting stuck during recovery process:

1. Check Minimum System Requirement

Before download, go ahead and read the minimum system requirements. Make sure you are running the software on a compatible system to ensure effortless recovery process.

2. Never Save Recovered data to Same Location

This is the most important step of data recovery process. While choosing the location to save the recovered data always use a different storage drive. You can use an external hard disk for recovery if you are recovering data from an internal storage and vice-versa.

3. Close All Applications

Sometimes, running application does not let Stellar Data recovery access important files that are required to carry out the recovery process. It’s highly recommended that you close all running applications except Stellar Windows Data Recovery to ensure smooth and error-free data recovery.

4. Run with Administrator Rights

For a successful recovery, always run Stellar Data Recovery software with Administrator Rights. Simply right-click on the software shortcut and choose ‘Run as administrator’.

5. Unplug USB Devices

You must disconnect unnecessary USB devices connected to the system where recovery software is being executed. USB devices may interfere with the software causing it to get stuck at some point during recovery.

6. Use Compression

When you try to recover large files or huge data, the Stellar Data Recovery could get stuck in rare situations due to read/write speeds of hard drive and storage space availability. Compressing files help conserve storage space. When you click ‘Recover’ button, a popup appears to browse the location where you want to save the recovered data. In the same popup box,

  • Click ‘Advanced Settings’
  • Click ‘Create Zip File’. You can further choose either ‘Zip each file individually’ or ‘Zip to a single file’.
  • Click ‘OK’ and then click ‘Start Saving’

7. Perform Selective Recovery

a) From the main "Select What To Recover" screen go to the "Advanced Settings" tab.

b) Then go to the second icon on the "Adavanced Settings" tab.

c) From the avialable list of options select the file format you need to recover and then click "close" button.

d) Follow the on screen recovery steps then. The software will only scan for the files you had selected.

8. Make Sure the Drive is firmly connected

Check for any loose connection between the storage drive and your PC. A loose connection or frequent disconnection of the drive during scan or recovery process can cause the software to get stuck. Therefore make sure all cables are firmly connected and avoid moving the connected drives until the recovery is done.

9. Enough Power Supply to external Disk

Sometimes power supplied to the hard drive isn’t enough that cause the hard drive to stop in between. USB ports on laptops supply a different amount of power when running on battery juice and when connected to the main source. Therefore, if you are using a laptop, make sure you plug-in the charger to ensure optimal amount of current & voltage available to the drive.

10. Enough data where you are Saving the Recovered Data

Before saving the data, check whether enough space is available on the destination drive. It’s important that the location where data is being saved should have enough free storage space to accommodate recovered data.

Hi, I have same issue on Windows 2012, files were found but software says “insufficient space at destination” no matter to where I am trying to save, other logical disk or external HDD. I.e. tried to recover 50 Mb file to space with few hundred Gbytes and receiving same error message.

Everytime it initializes I get an error message saying it quit unexpectantly. Then when it finally works and shows my volumes/hard drives, I get the message Seagate Backup + Desktop Media Total/Lost Volumes Found: 0... when the HD is THERE on my desktop, albeit very slow operating. I can open the disk to see the folders, and sometimes see what's in the folders, if they are not too big. Small jpegs and what nots- photos, I have already transferred to a new external HD. Bigger files - my music files, my songs, wav files, etc or my band stuff, loads very slowly and transferring anything is one at a time... if that. What can I do?? It's there. Is it a bad head on the HD? I took the HD apart, opened it. NO stuck head, platter moves freely. Can see the data in folders, just cannot retrieve it, or all, if only very excruciatingly slow.

I purchased v7.0 a while ago and attempting to use it to recover data from one external hard drive and create an image of it to another and am receiving the "insufficient space at destination" message to a 2 TB drive. I used Stellarphotorecovery professional on Imac running MacOS Mojave version 10.14.6. I have done normal scan on Seagate external drive to recover about 1.8 T of data. The scanning ran for 2 days and quit unexpectedly on building and showing data tree structure. So, I tried another of your recommended method by creating the Image of the drive first, which I have created successfully in about 16 hours. Then I started Stellarphotorecovery and mount the image. Then started scanning. Stellarphotorecovery scanned for about 4 or 5 minutes and either quit unexpectedly or freezed up. What is the problem, Please help me. I have gone through your checked list, tried them, but still could not solve the problem. Looking forward to your reply. Thank you

Kindly let us know the file system of the partition in which you are unable to save the recovered data. Please make sure that your external drive has file system supported by the operating system.

My recovery process has been stuck at 43% and the same number of files (1304) for twelve hours. Is it stuck and I should just hit STOP and try to save what has been found, or do I let it keep running? It was down to 2o+ minutes to go and then umped up again.

Hi. I have a 4tb that i formated for mistake and i am trying to recouver all the data. It was analising for 2 days and it reached 100 % of the 3rd step. WTF !!!!
Got the same problem working at a pc store as a repair man.
Thinking let me pay for this software and try it out for data recovery.
Its a true scam thats what i can say!! When i read all the bad comments about the same shit.

Got 6 TB off free space and than what i can read shut everything down dont use usb chek for free space dont use same destination bla bla bla
If i pay 80 euro for software what shows me that there is things to recover but cant becourse i dont have enough space? WTF Give my monny back there are free software's online that show me exat the same shit for free
For what do i need to pay if it only shows me there is recovery but the software you pay for cant recover it becaurse you dont have enough space??????????????

When i first scaned my drive it found everything on my HHD, i needed to go into Program Files and everything came up. I found the file i wanted and went to click recover and it hanged there so i quited the program and ran it again and this time it didn't find all my folders and i'm still out of my file that i really need. Please let us know the file system of destination drive and we will provide you the solution.

If destination drive is formatted in file system supported by Operating System than you will be able to save the recovered files.

After 4 hours and almost 55 minutes elapsed time the display was freezing: 2% scanned, time left: 240 hours. The task manager shows, its still working, reading speed only 1,2 MB/s. How can I give a wake up call to the readout?

This may help the individual, but not those who are simply searching for answer - in this case, why does the program stick when performing a deep scan? Hey, what's up with this software. Can't recover a single file. Tried multiple times. Interestingly, it shows all my missing files with each and every single folder. However, when I try to recover to an external location, some pop-up flashes and disappears, followed by deep silence.

I thought to first try with the free version. If I can't recover a single MB, then surely I won't opt for your upgraded version. Glad I didn't pay straight away.

4. Select ‘I don’t know how to add file type‘.

6. Name of the added file type will be listed in the left-hand side box.
7. Type in header file name in the dialog box and then select the header file type from Select Group drop-down list and the size from 8. Put Average File Size text box.
9. Click Add File Type button

i used stellar phoenix recovery 9.0 to scan my external hard drive for lost video files while it was scanning i saw some folders and files i was looking for but during the process my system went off , i tried scanning again but i couldn`t see the same file i saw initially, please what do i do?

when i try to deep scan my external hdd it stops at phase 3 at 7% i tried multipule times and the results are the same iam using deep scan because normal scan doesnt show me the files i want to recover please help me

Hi,

We recommend you to share the screenshot of Disk Management(Windows)/ Disk Utility(Mac) while highlighting the external drive which you are scanning.

Please let us know the reason of data loss as well.
