Unable to Save Recovered Files. The software shows not enough space on the drive

 Modified on: February 12, 2021 |    10156 views

After the scan, Stellar Data Recovery software displays the total number of recoverable files and folders along with their overall size.

If you try to save the recovered data that weighs more than the space available on the destination drive, the software shows not enough space on drive message.

Here are a few options that you can use to avoid the error message and save your recovered files.

1. Select & Recover

After the scan, uncheck all files and folders in the left Tree View pane. Then browse and mark the files that you want to recover. The size of marked files is displayed at the bottom-left corner of the software screen.

Make sure not to select files that weigh more than the free space available on the destination drive.

For instance, if total recoverable data is 18GB, the destination drive should have more than (not equal to) 18GB empty storage space to accommodate the recovered files.

2. Empty the Storage Drive

If the destination drive already contains data, empty it by moving the data to a different PC or cloud. Alternatively, use a new storage media with enough storage space required to save recovered files.

3. Save Scan & Resume Later

You may also save the scan information from the ‘Settings’ and load the scan data later. This helps you avoid the error as you can save files that are more important first and save the other remaining files when space or drive is available.

My hard drive has the space but it won't save the file I need. I have been trying the whole day! What else can I do? I am getting #root when I save it.

Hi. I'm trying to save some files to my USB but it claims there isn't enough space on it, despite the USB having 950 MB storage and the file only being 29 KB

I have enough room to save my data on my computer but it isn't saving. The moment I click the save button, the save process bar shows up but then disappears in a second. I check the files it's supposed to save in but there's nothing there.

Hi Wayne,

We understand that you are unable to save the recovered files.

Please make sure that destination drive is formatted in the file system supported by the operating system.

Kindly let us know the file system of both the drives to guide you in saving the recovered files.

I've tried recovering a couple files to see if your product works before purchasing it. It says they are recovered when I save them, but when I look for them on my PC, the folders that were supposedly created and saved in are nowhere to be found.

Hi Kendall,

Please check the size of Root folder created by our application while saving the lost files. If the size of the folder is 0 KB then try saving them in different locations.

Kindly share the screenshot of file preview showing inside the application.

We can't save recovered files to any USB drive at all. Neither one that has been used successfully on another pc (using Stellar) nor a brand new one that shows up clear and nearly empty on the pc in question. Stellar insists it has insufficient space.

Hi Richard

Please make sure that the size of the marked data not should be greater than the size of the destination drive.

Feel free to reach us.

The scanned files to be recovered was saved as .DAT file since I couldn't continue the recovery at that time. Unfortunately, when I wanted to resume the recovery, it just failed.
