iPhone 17 Rumors — Everything We Know So Far

On August 26, 2025 Apple confirmed that iPhone 17 launch event will take place on September 9, 2025 at 1PM ET. That's when Apple is expected to unveil the new iPhone 17 lineup with the latest  iOS 26, along with other new features. Even though we have to wait a one more weeks, various rumors and leaked features are already hinting on what to expect from the new iPhone. Here's what we know so far.

1. A Refined Lineup

Apple will release four models in 2025, while discontinuing the iPhone 17 Plus, due to low customer demand and replacing it iPhone 17 Air.

• iPhone 17 Pro → 6.3 inch display
• iPhone 17 Pro Max → 6.9 inch display

2. The All-New iPhone 17 ‘Air’ Model

Multiple rumors suggested that the standout addition to this year's lineup is the all-new iPhone 17 Air model, which is Apple's thinnest iPhone. This iPhone will have a super-thin design, around 5.5 – 6mm thick, weighing around 145 grams, making it slimmer and lighter than any iPhone to date.

Rumors suggest that the iPhone 17 Air will get a single-lens 48-megapixel rear camera with a new horizontal bump, distinguishing it from the typical iPhone 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max models.

3. ProMotion Display for Everyone

Earlier, Apple's 120Hz ProMotion display was limited to the iPhone's Pro models. In 2025, it is going to change, as it will be available on four iPhone 17 models thanks to low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) panels.

The new iPhone 17 lineup is tipped to have slimmer bezels (i.e., the thin black borders around the screen) for a sleeker look.

4. Big Camera Enhancements

All iPhone models coming in 2025 will have:

• 24-megapixel upgraded front-facing camera.
• iPhone 17 Pro Max is tipped to have 48MP Wide camera, a 48MP Ultra Wide camera, and a 48MP Tetraprism Telephoto camera. It is rumored to be the first iPhone with three 48-megapixel cameras, making it the most powerful camera system, which also support 8K video recording.
• The iPhone 17 Air will have a single 48MP rear camera, while the standard iPhone 17 will have a dual-lens system with Wide and Ultra Wide cameras.
• The Pro models may add a variable aperture feature allowing users to adjust light intake for more control over depth-of-field, and a dual video recording feature allowing users to record video from front and rear camera simultaneously.
• The 5x Telephoto zoom lens will remain exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max.

5. Fresh New Designs

The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Air will have a new horizontal rectangular camera bump, rather than a traditional classic square camera bump. Pro models are also rumored to replace titanium with aluminum, indicating the iPhone 17 Pro back will have a half-aluminum, half-glass design. The aluminum would improve durability, while the glass portion would still support MagSafe charging.

Apple is said to be testing new green and purple shades for the upcoming iPhone 17 models. The iPhone 17 models could come in black, white, steel gray, light blue, green, and purple.

6. Performance & Chip

The iPhone 17 lineup is expected to have new A19 chips built on TSMC's upgraded 3nm (3NP) process. The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max will use the more powerful A19 Pro chip, whereas the iPhone 17 & Air will use the standard A19 chip.

The iPhone 17 Pro, Pro Max, and Air are rumored to have 12GB of RAM, while the standard iPhone 17 is will remain at 8GB.

7. Connectivity & Wireless Features

• The iPhone 17 Air will use Apple's first in-house 5G modem, while the other iPhone 17 models will continue using Qualcomm chips.
• iPhone 17 Air will not have the SIM tray because of how thin it is.
• All iPhone 17 models will have Apple's first custom-designed Wi-Fi chip, supporting Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3 for faster and more efficient wireless connections.

8. Battery & Charging

The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are said to use the new adhesive technology that means the batteries are easier to remove. Due to the slim size of iPhone 17 Air, its  battery capacity is said to be around 2,800mAh whereas iPhone 17 Pro Max will have the biggest iPhone battery around 5,000mAh.

Rumor claimed that the iPhone 17 models will support up to 35W wired charging speeds, while wireless charging may increase to 25W with Qi 2.2-compatible third-party chargers.
