If you can’t hear any voice in the earpiece while on a call (without a loudspeaker) then there might be a possibility that due to water spillage or faulty hardware, the earpiece has stopped working. Even try cleaning the thin steel net holes above the earpiece. Moreover, if still, the issue persists then you need to connect with Apple Care and get it checked at an Apple Authorized service center.
