How to Save Corrupt Outlook PST File to Microsoft 365?

A Personal Storage Table (PST) file, also known as personal folder file, is created in Microsoft Outlook to store email messages, contacts, tasks, calendar items, and other data. PST files are often used to back up data from Microsoft Outlook or to transfer mailbox data from one computer to another or one Outlook profile to another or Microsoft 365.

If PST files become large, they can cause performance issues in Microsoft Outlook. Also, large PST files are prone to corruption. In addition, there are several other causes of PST file corruption, including:

  • Power outage or sudden shutdown of the computer while Outlook is running.
  • Hardware issues, such as a faulty hard drive or insufficient RAM.
  • Viruses or malware infections.
  • Incorrectly closing Outlook or the computer.
  • Overuse or overloading of the PST file.
  • Compatibility issues with the version of Outlook being used.

If you encounter corruption in PST file, you need to repair the file before saving it to Microsoft 365 or Office 365. Below, we’ve mentioned ways to save or import corrupt PST file into Microsoft 365.Top of Form

Repair PST using ScanPST and then import it into Microsoft 365

You can try to repair the corrupt PST file using the Inbox Repair Tool (Scanpst.exe). It is used to scan and fix errors in the PST file. This tool is included with Microsoft Outlook.

To repair PST file using ScanPST, follow these steps:

  • Close Outlook (if it is open).
  • Find ScanPST.exe on your system. ScanPST location may vary, depending on your Outlook version. To find ScanPST location, read How to Find Scanpst.exe in Outlook 2019, 2016, 2013, 2010 and 2007?
  • When found, open ScanPST.exe.
  • Click Browse to select the PST file you want to repair.
  • Select Start to begin the scan.
  • If the tool finds errors after scan, click Repair to fix them.
  • Wait for the repair process to complete.

After repairing the PST file, you can save or import it into Microsoft 365 using Outlook options or using Network Upload method.

Note: This method is tedious and time-consuming as it involves a large number of steps. In addition, there are file size limits: 2 GB to repair the PST using ScanPST; and 20 GB to import the PST into Microsoft 365 using Network Upload.
