I have erased my data. Can I recover it on the same drive?

There is a difference between data erasure and data deletion. Data erased using a standard data erasure tool or by using the Full Format option cannot be recovered even with a file recovery tool.

On the contrary, if you have deleted your data using the ‘Del’ and ‘Shift + Del’ options, you can still recover it. The data becomes inaccessible to the user but remains recoverable until overwritten with other/new data.

Data removed with the Del key can be restored from Recycle bin. But data deleted using the ‘Shift+Del’ command, will be permanently deleted. To recover this data, you will need professional data recovery software.

A data recovery software, however, doesn’t allow saving recovered data at the older location to prevent data overwriting and further data corruption.
